Rehab insurance coverage varies from provider to provider and even from state to state. Much will depend on the type of plan you have. We are able to accept most PPO plans and many other types of insurance for rehab expenses. Your coverage will depend on your individual policy and personal circumstances so the best way to determine your eligibility is to verify your benefits through our simple insurance verification form. Our intake team will then help guide you through your treatment options.

Treatment Covered by Rehab Insurance Providers

Detox and rehab coverage varies wildly, even within the same insurer. Many health insurance companies are less strict on outpatient treatment options that inpatient (residential) treatment since it's a far more cost-effective form of treatment. Unfortunately, it's also the least effective treatment choice for most people. Since there are so many variables, at Coastline we have an experienced admissions department who are adept at working with you to maximize your benefits and get you the most suitable treatment for your needs. We will do everything possible on your behalf.

Using Medi-Cal for Addiction Treatment

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. It provides free or low-cost health coverage to low-income residents. Many public health providers in California accept Medi-Cal.

Medi-Cal covers similar benefits as other health insurance plans under Covered California. This includes addiction treatment services. However, not all rehab programs accept Medi-Cal insurance.

Rehab programs that take Medi-Cal often require a referral from your primary doctor saying the treatment is medically necessary. Pregnant women, people with urgent needs, those with mental illness, IV drug users, and parents with young children at risk are given priority for treatment under Medi-Cal.

Recent Policy Changes to Improve Addiction Treatment

In 2015, the U.S. government approved a new program called Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS). This program has expanded addiction treatment services a lot. It requires addiction treatment programs to use treatments that have been proven to work.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, requires most health insurance plans to cover important health benefits. This includes different types of addiction treatment.

So because of these two government policies passed in recent years, there are now more addiction treatment options that insurance will cover. The treatments are also required to be effective, evidence-based practices.
