Therapist

Lauri May, MFTI

Therapist

Laurie is a Marriage and Family Therapist intern who has had 4 years experience working in the field of drug and alcohol recovery. She graduated in 2012 from Vanguard University with her Maters degree, with a philosophy of being client centered and honoring each individual’s story. From early on, Laurie knew that the field of psychology and working with relationships was for her after hearing a mentor talk about the joys of being a safe and secure person for others. Laurie has chosen to morph this into a lifestyle in her personal journey of continuing to seek health through mindfulness, accepting her limits, building a transparent support system, and honoring the uniqueness of each personality. Laurie’s personal philosophy of recovery and what it means to her is the courage to get curious about the pain of living a life of substance abuse in order to find healing and a community that reminds each person of their innate goodness and purpose for a better life. Laurie’s personal experience at Coastline is that it is a place to grow into your potential, and the vulnerability it takes to wholeheartedly work as a team to make a mark in the world of recovery.

David DeMille

Lead Case Manager

David DeMille is a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor (CATC) who has enthusiastically joined the Coastline team in the role of case manager and group counselor, assisting clients who want to become free from the wreckage of alcohol and drug addiction. David’s first career was in the field of education, first as a classroom teacher for 9 years, then as a curriculum and instruction administrator of various federal and state educational initiatives for 13 years. During that time, he received a Master’s Degree in school counseling. David has facilitated Drug and Alcohol groups, as well as Domestic Violence classes, for the past two years, and hopes to continue his education so that his work with clients will yield increased results. He continues to write curriculum and materials used to influence client change in specific areas of need, including the many facets of substance abuse and treatment. He brings his teaching and coaching abilities to his current work, along with the insights he has gained from his own experience with drug addiction and subsequent recovery. David strongly believes that recovery is available to anyone who genuinely wants it and that developing the self-efficacy of the client is imperative. Equally crucial, personal transformation is accomplished by learning new ways to think and act. Long term personal growth is acquired by gaining tangible insights in a therapeutic setting, then practicing their application in real world situations. He trusts that when recovering addicts are given the “scaffolds” necessary to learn and enjoy a new way of life, and then those scaffolds are slowly removed over time, a sustained recovery is indeed possible. David is inspired by his Christian faith, is devoted to his wife and five children, and is motivated by his compassion for the “addict who still suffers.” He looks forward to providing all Coastline clients with competent, quality care in a safe and friendly environment

Lead Case Manager

Gary Tucker, MFTI

Lead Therapist

I have now been personally involved in substance-abuse recovery for over 23 years. In addition, I have had close family members suffer from both mental illness and substance abuse problems. The bulk of my professional career has involved owning and managing two small businesses. However, there is no doubt in my mind that my work over the past 6 years in the field of addiction recovery has been the most rewarding of my life. Although I have found that the work is not without significant challenges, in my opinion, there is nothing quite as fulfilling as being a part of a client’s successful recovery from the devastation caused by drug and alcohol dependence. On both a personal and professional level I am also keenly aware of the acute effect substance abuse has on non-addicted family members. I view addiction as a “family disease” and welcome interaction with those whose life has been impacted by a loved one’s addiction.

Kyle Allen

Admissions Coordinator

Kyle Allen’s primary focus is on client care. Understanding and relating to the clients and their experience while instilling hope with Kyle’s 15-year struggle with personal addiction allows him to work with them on a deeper level. Addiction is a family disease as well and fuels his passion for helping the entire family during the recovery process. Kyle believed that he was doomed while experiencing jails, institutions, homelessness and broken roads without end. I thought that the things that worked for other people just didn’t work for me. Treatment, meetings, sponsor, steps, he just couldn’t get a hold of it. As soon as he finally let go, and finally became 100% willing, it started to get better. Slowly but surely life got good again and he started to see that recovery worked. Today Kyle has over 3 years clean and sober, and It all started with a choice to go through treatment, a willingness to stick with it and the passion for passing it on. We are grateful to have Kyle Allen as part of the Coastline Family.

Emily Arnold

Treatment Technician

Having been geographically displaced from Oregon over four years ago in order to get sober, Emily Arnold has a unique ability to connect and identify with the clients who have also come from out-of-state in order to gain sobriety. Since Orange County is seen as the Recovery Mecca of the US, she made the decision to stay in the OC rather than moving back home because of the strong clean and sober fellowship. After working as a server and shift lead at an Italian Café for over 2 years and building strong connections with folks outside of the sober community, she had a calling to go the way of working in treatment to further be of service to newcomers (besides just volunteering her time at an indigent women’s recovery home on the weekends or house managing the sober living where she resided). This brought her to seek employment at Coastline in Spring 2016; where her main job is to transport clients to and from the office, the house, experiential outings, and 12-step meetings. She offers support and guidance to clients through her own empirical evidence and experiences. Treatment technicians are often on the frontline—daily battling the disease of addiction and alcoholism and Emily is passionate about helping clients see how their best thinking got them to where they are today. The most rewarding thing for Emily about working at Coastline is witnessing clients grabbing hold of their sobriety, taking control and changing their lives, and their personal growth.

David Lindwall

Experiential Coordinator

Being one of the first house managers since the beginning, Coastline has really given David Lindwall a chance to watch it grow into the behavioral health treatment center that it is today. David Lindwall came to Orange County from Northern California to get sober on Feb. 8th, 2015 and has been a strong member of the sober community ever since. Having been given so much from sobriety and the kindness of others, he decided to give back as much as he can by becoming a member of the Coastline family. David was shown early on in his sobriety that life can truly be fun and amazing once your eyes are open and he believes in helping the next newcomer realize that as well. With nearly 2 years of sobriety, David provides a safe and fun atmosphere for clients and really tries to motivate them to live their lives to their fullest potential.

Shaun Coleman

Treatment Technician

Shaun was a troubled teen growing up in a small city in Southern New Jersey. Alcohol and drug addiction took control of his life at a young age. After numerous attempts at sobriety at several different treatment centers across the East Coast, he made the decision to seek treatment in Southern California. He was a former client at Coastline and chose to make a dramatic change to his way of living. After hard work and dedication to his sobriety, he decided that he wanted to work in treatment and help other struggling addicts receive the benefits of recovery from their addiction. Shaun is a house manager and campus coordinator who teaches life skills to clients to prepare them for life outside of treatment. He is a valuable asset to this team because of his kind heart and his ability to listen and relate to the clients who struggle with their past. What he likes most about his role at Coastline is being a person that clients can come to when they feel like they have nobody to turn to or that others won’t understand them. The connection he makes with these clients, and being able to help them in any way possible, is what brings him the most joy.

I grew up in Memphis TN and had a troubled childhood with the passing of my father. I turned to drugs at the age of 13 and started down a very dark road. My alcoholism destroyed my life and tore apart my relationship with my family and friends. I attended my first treatment at the age of 19 and continued to use after I left. My life changed when I flew to California for treatment, and I took a hold of the 12 steps and utilized my sponsor. My life is amazing now after all of the pain and suffering I went through I can help our clients with the grief of losing a loved one. I enjoy working with people like myself everyday it brings me pure happiness and joy to see happiness in clients eyes as well as bring recovery to the clients families.

Daniel Choi

Support Staff / Treatment Technician

My journey through sobriety has been one filled with many blessings and heartbreaks but each has been an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. All this has led me to working at an amazing treatment center and the possibility of competing in olympic weightlifting. The beginning was filled with confusion and darkness and I felt that I would never be able to come into any sobriety and happiness. But I took in all of the information provided by those who have a good mind and heart and stuck with the winners. I am ready to start this new journey in my life and know that my experiences will be perfect in helping those around me and assuring that the clients that come into Coastline are treated with the same kind of understanding and care that was given to me in my journey through sobriety.

Paul Vidal

Support Staff / Treatment Technician

My name is Paul Vidal. I am forty-nine years of age. I was born in the city of Los Angeles and I come from a large family. I basically was raised by my grandparents. I became the product of my environment, brushes with the law and drugs of all kinds were prevalent among my aunts and uncles. I perceived drinking and using to be normal behavior.

We are all offered many roads in life and I chose the wrong one. I took my first drink of alcohol at the age of thirteen and the race was on. I tried every current drug and pushed my life to serious consequences with the law. Today, I realize that many of my problems were self-driven, attitudinal and caused by me. I was broken and a ready candidate for recovery. I was forty-seven when I got sober. I found myself a home group in 12 Step Program and immediately found me a sponsor who had forty-one years of sobriety and he was quite demanding. That 12 Step Program has given me a life worth living. Working the twelve steps and practicing the spiritual principles while helping others, has given me hope of the promises to achieve a life of happy destiny. After twenty eight months of recovery, I have a new passion to help other alcoholics and addicts achieve sobriety.
